I have had a GREAT time teaching some DoTerra Essential Oils classes this month - I've been demonstrating some practical applications for the DoTerra oils, making household products that are non-toxic and that work BETTER than the stuff you can buy at the store!
One of the recipes I made yesterday was homemade mouthwash. I got the inspiration because my son went to the dentist for a cleaning this week, and the hygienist told him that the mouthwash he was using (a very popular name brand) was actually bad for his teeth! So I set about finding a recipe online for homemade mouthwash. Here's the final result:
1 cup purified water
10 drops peppermint oil
5 drops melaleuca oil
2 drops clove (thanks for that tip, Joan!)
1 tsp baking soda
1 Tbsp xylitol (all natural sweetener that's good for your teeth!)
Mix them all together in a glass jar, and you've got homemade mouthwash that is refreshing, is good for your teeth and gums, and costs a fraction of what you pay for at any store - with no toxins or chemicals that are harmful!
FYI, the xylitol is something you can order through any health food store or on line. I actually used erythritol, which you can purchase at the local health food stores. It's a sugar alcohol as well, is tooth-friendly, and is a great substitute for sugar in small quantities!
